The short answer
SportsRecruits is a legitimate, free-to-join recruiting network, owned by IMG Academy since 2025, where college coaches search athlete profiles and clubs manage their players' recruiting. The free profile is genuinely useful, while Pro, which adds messaging any coach and seeing which colleges viewed you, is not priced publicly and is reported by clubs and families at about $99 a month or $399 a year. It is clearly worth using when your club or high school provides it, and a closer call when you pay for it yourself.
- Free: profile, unlimited video, highlight reel editor, school research, target list, open roster needs, and alerts when a college views you.
- Pro: messaging any college coach, seeing which colleges viewed you, a Roster Needs filter in select sports, and IMG Academy+ Essentials.
- Price: not published by SportsRecruits. Clubs and families report about $99 a month or $399 a year, and it may vary by sport and by club arrangement.
- Billing: monthly or annual, renews automatically, and the terms say all subscriptions are non-refundable.
- Owner: IMG Academy (acquisition announced May 22, 2025), the same parent as NCSA.
- Best for: athletes whose club or high school already runs recruiting through SportsRecruits, and sports where it has association or event ties: lacrosse, field hockey, soccer, and volleyball.
How we reviewed SportsRecruits
Disclosure: NextCommit is our product, and it appears below as one SportsRecruits alternative. We checked SportsRecruits' public site, help center, terms, and app store listings on September 30, 2026, and checked each alternative's price on its own site the same day. Where a competitor is the better fit, we say so.
SportsRecruits does not publish its Pro price. Where a price is not public, we say "not published" and give only figures reported by clubs and families, labeled as reported. We did not create an account or log in, so anything visible only inside the product is outside this review.
Is SportsRecruits free? What free and Pro include
Yes, the athlete account is free. SportsRecruits tags each feature on its athletes page as Free or Pro, which makes the split easy to read.
The free-tier detail that matters most is the view alert. Free athletes are told when a college looks at them but not which college, and that gap is the main thing Pro unlocks besides messaging. Pro athletes can also copy their high school or club staff on coach messages.
Sport-specific Pro accounts on co-branded platforms include more. IWLCARecruits Pro (women's lacrosse) includes film from 30+ events and one professional highlight reel credit per year, and IMLCARecruits Pro (men's lacrosse) includes IMLCA event film and one highlight reel credit per year. SportsRecruits also offers Scout, an AI recruiting assistant in beta for athletes and families that can help draft intro emails to coaches and build a college list.
| Feature | Free | Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Recruiting profile (athletic, academic, personal) | Yes | Yes |
| Unlimited video and highlight reel editor | Yes | Yes |
| School search and target list | Yes | Yes |
| See open Roster Needs posted by college coaches | Yes | Yes |
| Alert when a college views you | Yes, by email and text | Yes |
| See which college viewed your profile, video, or transcript | No | Yes |
| Message any college coach from the platform | No | Yes, each message carries a tracked profile link |
| Roster Needs search filter | No | Yes, in field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, and women's volleyball |
| IMG Academy+ Essentials | No | Yes |
| SportsRecruits Pro mobile app | No | Yes, iOS only (no Android app) |
| Appear in coaches' event books through EventBeacon | Yes | Yes |
How much does SportsRecruits cost?
SportsRecruits does not publish a Pro price. Its pricing page sends logged-out visitors to a login screen, and its help articles tell members to log in and choose Upgrade Account to see pricing. Every figure below comes from a club, a parent, or the SportsRecruits help center, and is labeled that way.
Treat the $99 and $399 figures as reported, not official. Both club sources are in lacrosse and field hockey, which run on co-branded SportsRecruits platforms, so the price in other sports may differ. A softball parent in a 2022 forum thread gave a similar figure, with the team paying.
Billing terms matter more than usual here. Pro is sold monthly or annually and renews automatically, and SportsRecruits' Terms of Use (effective June 6, 2025) say all subscriptions are non-refundable. Cancelling moves you to the free tier at the end of the billing cycle and keeps your profile. You cannot upgrade or cancel inside the iOS app; subscription changes happen in a web browser.

Who owns SportsRecruits, and is it legit?
Yes, it is legit. SportsRecruits is an established company with a large corporate owner and official ties to college coaches associations.
Legit does not mean flawless. App Store reviewers report login and server errors and school browsing problems in the Pro app, while one 2026 graduate praised checking messages on the go. In forum threads, one family describes ending up with a second account after switching teams, and some parents say coaches told them SportsRecruits messages landed in spam and asked for direct email instead.
- Founded in 2008 by Chris Meade and Matt Wheeler, both former Division III athletes, and headquartered in New York City.
- IMG Academy announced on May 22, 2025 that it had acquired SportsRecruits; terms were not disclosed. IMG Academy also owns NCSA College Recruiting.
- SportsRecruits acquired ConnectSports, a club evaluation, recruiting, and video company, in November 2021.
- The IMLCA, IWLCA, and NFHCA coaches associations (men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, and field hockey) run their official recruiting platforms on SportsRecruits.
- EDP Soccer named SportsRecruits the exclusive recruiting technology for its showcase events in 2022, and the Junior Volleyball Association has partnered with it.
- Public ratings are thin: the SportsRecruits Pro iOS app shows 3.2 out of 5 from 14 ratings, its EventBeacon coach app shows 4.6 from 13, and its Trustpilot profile is unclaimed with no reviews.
Do college coaches use SportsRecruits?
Yes, some college coaches use it, and it costs them nothing. How much they use it varies by sport and program, and SportsRecruits does not publish a count of college coaches or programs on the platform.
Coach opinion is mixed in what families describe. Softball parents in forum threads report that uploaded videos drew coach views and that many schools appear to use the platform, while others say some coaches preferred direct email. The practical takeaway: a SportsRecruits profile helps the coaches who already search there find you, but it does not replace emailing the coaches on your list.
- Coaches log in free with a .edu or athletic department email, browse a Discover Feed, search athletes, post Roster Needs, message athletes, and export to recruiting CRMs such as JumpForward, FrontRush, and ARMS.
- Messages to coaches are also forwarded to the coach's department email.
- At select lacrosse, soccer, and women's volleyball events, coaches use the EventBeacon app for schedules, rosters, and notes, and it pulls from both free and Pro profiles.
- SportsRecruits reports 21M+ athlete views by colleges, 17K+ Roster Needs published by colleges, and 74K+ athlete commitments logged. These are the company's own figures.
- It says more than 400,000 athletes and 2,000 club and high school organizations use it every day.
Is SportsRecruits worth it?
It depends on who pays and how much the coaches in your sport use it.
Forum parents put it plainly. One softball parent on the Discuss Fastpitch forum wrote, "I'm not sure I'd pay $400 for it," and several said it is worth it mainly when a club or school pays. Another noted that everything it does can be done free with more effort. That matches our read: the free profile is worth having, and the paid tier is worth it when you will actually use it to reach coaches.
| Your situation | Verdict |
|---|---|
| Your club or high school provides SportsRecruits | Use it. Complete the profile, keep video current, and ask club staff to send your profile and recommendations. |
| You play lacrosse or field hockey | Strong case. The coaches associations run their official recruiting platforms on SportsRecruits. |
| You pay out of pocket and will message coaches every week | Reasonable, if you will use messaging and view tracking. Ask your club about a negotiated rate first. |
| You pay out of pocket and mostly want to be found | Stay on the free tier. You keep the profile, video, school research, and view alerts. |
| You want a human advisor | SportsRecruits does not list one publicly; its own 2025 report points families to NCSA for one-on-one help. |
SportsRecruits alternatives compared
If SportsRecruits does not fit your situation, these are the main alternatives. Prices were checked on each vendor's own site on September 30, 2026.
| Service | Price | Model | Who does the outreach | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SportsRecruits | Free; Pro not published (reported about $99 a month or $399 a year) | Profile network searched by coaches, often managed by clubs | Athlete (Pro messaging) and club staff | Athletes whose club or school provides it |
| FieldLevel | Free; Premium $29, $49, or $79 a month ($278 to $758 a year) | Coach-endorsement network | High school or club coach promotes you; Gold and Platinum athletes can contact colleges | Athletes whose coach is active on FieldLevel |
| NCSA | Free profile; packages not published, families report $2,000 to $6,000+ | Profile network plus recruiting coaches | Athlete, guided by a recruiting coach | Families who want human guidance and can afford it |
| NextCommit (our product) | Free (10 emails a week); Varsity $19.99 a month; Pro $49.99 a month | Outreach software, not a discovery network | AI drafts each email; athlete reviews and sends from own inbox | Baseball, softball, football, soccer, and basketball athletes doing direct outreach |
SportsRecruits vs alternatives: features side by side
Based on each service's public pages and app listings as of September 30, 2026. "Not found in public sources" means we could not find the feature described publicly, not that it does not exist.
| Feature | SportsRecruits | FieldLevel | NCSA | NextCommit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free tier | Profile, video, school research, view alerts | Profile, video, stats, search visibility | Free profile and app | 10 AI-personalized coach emails a week, full coach database |
| Paid prices published | No (Pro shown after login) | Yes | No (quote after a call) | Yes |
| College coaches search your profile | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Contact coaches first | Pro messaging | Gold and Platinum (Contact Colleges) | Message center on premium memberships | Every plan, from your own inbox |
| See which colleges engaged | Pro | Silver and up | More coach-view tracking on premium | Opens, replies, and film views on Varsity and Pro |
| Support from your coach or club | Club staff tag fits and send recommendations | Coaches promote and evaluate you | Not found in public sources | No |
| Human recruiting advisor | Not found in public sources; points families to NCSA | No | Yes, recruiting coaches | No; 24/7 AI recruiting assistant on Pro |
FieldLevel: the alternative when your coach is on it
Verdict: FieldLevel is the strongest SportsRecruits alternative when your high school or club coach is active there, and it publishes every price.
FieldLevel's free athlete plan includes unlimited video, stats, search visibility, and coach references. Premium starts with Silver at $29 a month or $278 a year (see which colleges viewed you), then Gold at $49 a month or $470 a year (contact 20 colleges a month, plus needs alerts), and Platinum at $79 a month or $758 a year (unlimited college contacts). Its iOS app shows 4.9 out of 5 from 2,567 ratings.
The catch is the model. Free athletes cannot send the first message to a college coach, and a coach can promote a free athlete only to college coaches in that coach's own network. If your coach is not on FieldLevel, the endorsement engine that sets it apart does not run.
NCSA: same owner, human guidance, higher price
Verdict: NCSA is the alternative for families who want a person guiding the process, and it is now a sister company of SportsRecruits under IMG Academy.
NCSA does not publish package prices; its cost page asks families to schedule a call for a personalized quote, and families report packages of $2,000 to $6,000+ (see our NCSA cost guide). Its App Store listing describes a free app with premium memberships that add more ways to connect with colleges, more coach-view tracking, a message center, and guided education from recruiting coaches. NCSA says more than 40,000 college coaches can be reached through a free profile.
SportsRecruits itself draws the line between the two: its 2025 Halftime Report presents SportsRecruits as the platform and tools, and points families to NCSA for one-on-one planning, direct introductions to coaches, and scholarship negotiation support.
NextCommit: direct outreach from your own inbox
Verdict: NextCommit is the alternative for athletes who want to contact coaches directly instead of waiting to be found; it is our product, so weigh this section with that in mind.
The free plan includes 10 coach emails a week, the full database of 35,000+ coaches at 1,800+ schools, a recruiting profile builder, and AI that writes a different email for each coach from your stats, film, grades, and goals. You review every email, and it sends from your own inbox. Varsity ($19.99 a month or $119.94 a year) raises the limit to 50 emails a week and adds open, reply, and film-view tracking, a message center, and automated follow-ups. Pro ($49.99 a month or $299.94 a year) allows 200 emails a week and adds coach DMs on X, the Recruit Score with a projected division level, school matching, roster needs analysis, and a 24/7 recruiting assistant. There is no sales call, and monthly plans cancel anytime. In our platform data, coaches opened about 46% of athlete emails.
The limits are real. College coaches do not browse NextCommit profiles the way they search SportsRecruits, so it is an outreach tool, not a discovery network. There is no human advisor, no events or showcases, and it covers only baseball, softball, football, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's basketball. It works best alongside a free SportsRecruits profile, not instead of one your club provides.
Email coaches directly, free
The free plan includes 10 AI-personalized coach emails a week, sent from your own inbox. No sales call.

FAQ
Coach email questions athletes ask most
Is SportsRecruits free?
Yes. The SportsRecruits athlete account is free and includes a recruiting profile, unlimited video, a highlight reel editor, school research, a target list, open roster needs, and alerts when a college views you. Messaging any college coach, seeing which college viewed you, and the Roster Needs filter require a paid Pro subscription. College coaches use SportsRecruits for free.
How much does SportsRecruits cost?
About $99 a month or $399 a year for individual Pro, as reported by clubs and families; SportsRecruits does not publish an official Pro price. Both club sources are in lacrosse and field hockey, so the price may vary by sport and by club arrangement. Many athletes get Pro through their club or high school instead, and one field hockey club says it charges families a discounted $250 a year.
Is SportsRecruits worth it?
Yes, if your club or high school provides it, because club staff can then tag schools as fits and send your profile and recommendations to college coaches. Paying out of pocket is a closer call: parents in softball forums said it was worth it mainly when a club paid, and the free profile plus your own emails to coaches covers much of the same ground. Buy Pro yourself only if you will actively message coaches and use the view tracking.
Is SportsRecruits legit?
Yes. SportsRecruits was founded in 2008, IMG Academy announced it had acquired the company in May 2025, and the IMLCA, IWLCA, and NFHCA coaches associations run their official recruiting platforms on it. App Store reviewers report some login and server problems in its Pro app, which shows 3.2 out of 5 from 14 ratings, and its terms say all subscriptions are non-refundable, so read the billing terms before you upgrade.
Who owns SportsRecruits?
IMG Academy. IMG Academy announced on May 22, 2025 that it had acquired SportsRecruits, with terms not disclosed, which puts it under the same parent as NCSA College Recruiting. SportsRecruits was founded in 2008 by Chris Meade and Matt Wheeler, and Meade was quoted in the announcement as co-founder and CEO.
Do college coaches use SportsRecruits?
Yes, some do, and it is free for them. College coaches log in with a .edu or athletic department email to search athletes, post Roster Needs, message athletes, and export to recruiting CRMs, and SportsRecruits reports 21M+ athlete views by colleges. It does not publish how many college coaches use it, and parents in forum threads describe coach opinions as mixed, with some coaches asking athletes to email them directly.
What is the best SportsRecruits alternative?
FieldLevel, if your high school or club coach is active there: it runs on coach endorsements and publishes its Premium prices of $29 to $79 a month. NCSA fits families who want a human recruiting coach, though families report its packages at $2,000 to $6,000+. NextCommit (our product) fits athletes who want to contact coaches directly, with AI-personalized emails sent from their own inbox, free for 10 a week.
