The short answer
Yes, FieldLevel is free: the athlete plan costs $0, and coaches at every level use it free. Premium costs $29 (Silver), $49 (Gold), or $79 (Platinum) a month, or $278, $470, or $758 billed yearly. FieldLevel is worth it when your high school or club coach is active on it, because its real strength is coaches vouching for athletes to college programs.
- Free plan: unlimited video, stats and metrics, a profile college coaches can find in search, and coach references. Free athletes cannot send the first message to a college coach.
- Silver ($29 a month or $278 a year): shows which colleges viewed your profile or video, plus college matches and college research.
- Gold ($49 a month or $470 a year): adds recruiting needs alerts, 20 college contacts a month, and a 2X profile boost. FieldLevel marks it as its most popular tier.
- Platinum ($79 a month or $758 a year): unlimited college contacts and a 5X profile boost.
- If your coach buys team seats, annual Gold costs $79 to $139 per athlete instead of $470.
- Alternative: NextCommit lets baseball, softball, football, soccer, and basketball athletes email college coaches first with a personalized message from their own inbox, free up to 10 emails a week. It works alongside a free FieldLevel profile.
How we reviewed FieldLevel
Disclosure first: NextCommit is our product, and it appears in this review as an alternative. We hold it to the same standard as FieldLevel, and where FieldLevel is the better fit, we say so plainly.
We checked every FieldLevel price and feature on fieldlevel.com and its help center on September 30, 2026, along with its App Store and Google Play listings and its public written reviews. Every FieldLevel number below is FieldLevel's own unless we say otherwise. NCSA's live site blocked automated access, so NCSA facts come from its App Store listing and archived copies of its own pages from August and September 2026. Where a company does not publish a price, we write "not published" instead of guessing.
How FieldLevel works: a network built on coach endorsements
Verdict: FieldLevel is the strongest free recruiting network for athletes whose high school, club, or junior college coach is active on it, and a more limited tool for athletes recruiting on their own.
FieldLevel, Inc. has been working on recruiting since 2008 and was part of the first LA Dodgers Accelerator class in 2015. It describes itself as a network where athletes, coaches, and teams connect. College coaches search for athletes and post recruiting needs. High school and club coaches manage rosters and recommend players. Athletes build profiles, research colleges, and talk with college coaches.
The engine is the Athlete Promotion. Only an athlete's own coaches can send one: it packages the athlete's full profile (video, academics, contact details, and coach evaluations) with a personal note to college coaches. College coaches who are not on FieldLevel get the promotion by email and can reply to the promoting coach. On the free plan, a coach can promote an athlete only to college coaches in that coach's own network. Promoting to any college in the country requires the athlete to have Premium.
Coach evaluations are the second half. A coach writes an evaluation, projects the athlete's best-fit level (professional, NCAA Division I, II, or III, NAIA, or junior college), and adds athletic measurements. Only coaches can see evaluations, not the athlete. College coaches also have to ask permission to see an athlete's contact details, which the athlete and their coach release.
The trust signals are solid. Coach accounts go through email verification and a check by the FieldLevel team that the person coaches at the listed team, and unverified coaches do not appear in the network. FieldLevel covers 26 sports, from baseball, softball, and football to rowing, rifle, and water polo. One practical note for parents: there are no separate parent profiles, so a parent edits the profile by signing in with the athlete's login.
How much does FieldLevel cost? Every plan and price
FieldLevel publishes all of its athlete and team prices on fieldlevel.com, so you can compare before you create an account. These are the prices shown on September 30, 2026. Paying yearly saves 20%, per FieldLevel.
Gold's 20 monthly college contacts refresh each billing cycle, and unused contacts roll over up to a maximum of 60. FieldLevel's help center lists the same three tiers at the same prices in an article last updated July 10, 2023.
Team seat pricing steps down with volume: 5 to 9 seats cost $139 per athlete a year, 10 to 19 cost $119, 20 to 39 cost $99, and 40 to 99 cost $79, against $470 for Gold at retail. A coach can reassign a seat, for example after an athlete commits. Athletes on team seats do not get a profile boost.
| Plan | Monthly | Yearly | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free (athlete) | $0 | $0 | Unlimited video uploads, stats and metrics, a profile coaches can find in search, profile sharing, coach references |
| Silver | $29 | $278 (shown as $23 a month) | College activity (which colleges viewed your profile or video), college matches, college research |
| Gold | $49 | $470 (shown as $39 a month) | Silver features plus recruiting needs alerts, 20 college contacts a month, and a 2X profile boost |
| Platinum | $79 | $758 (shown as $63 a month) | Silver features plus recruiting needs alerts, unlimited college contacts, and a 5X profile boost |
| Team Gold seats (bought by a coach, 5 seat minimum) | Annual only | $79 to $139 per athlete, depending on seat count | Gold features, without the profile boost |
| Staff Free (coaches) | $0 | $0 | Unlimited teams, athletes, and coaches; promote athletes to your network and to recruiting needs |
| Staff Prime (coaches) | Not listed | $99 per sport | Activity dashboards for the coaching staff; does not give athletes Premium |
Is FieldLevel free? What the free plan does and does not include
Yes. FieldLevel says it is free for both athletes and coaches, and the free athlete plan has no time limit. The limits are about who can start a conversation and what you can see.
The free plan is enough when your coach is active on FieldLevel and already promoting you, when you are early in high school and building a profile with film, or when you are reaching college coaches some other way, such as direct email. In each case the free profile does its job: it gives coaches who hear about you a place to look.
- Included free: unlimited video, stats and metrics, a searchable profile, a shareable profile link, and coach references.
- Included free: replying to college coaches. Once a college coach starts the conversation, the athlete and parents can reply.
- Not included: sending the first message to a college coach. That takes Gold or Platinum.
- Not included: seeing which colleges viewed your profile or video, college matches, and college research. Those start at Silver.
- Not included: recruiting needs alerts, which start at Gold.
- Not included: your coach promoting you to colleges outside the coach's own network. Any Premium tier unlocks that.
Do college coaches use FieldLevel?
Yes, though FieldLevel does not publish how many college coaches or programs are active, as opposed to coaches at every level.
On September 30, 2026, FieldLevel's homepage counted 1.4M athletes, 163.4K teams, and 171.5K coaches across all levels, and its commitments page counted 184,761 commitments. These are FieldLevel's own totals.
The strongest recent signal is at the junior college level. On August 4, 2026, the NJCAA named FieldLevel its Official Recruiting Network. FieldLevel says the deal covers more than 500 NJCAA member colleges and over 60,000 student-athletes, and that more than 60% of NJCAA teams had a coach actively using FieldLevel in the 90 days before the announcement.
College coaches also post recruiting needs by class and position. FieldLevel's public needs page showed a counter of 14,281 on September 30, 2026, though it does not say whether that counts only open needs. Athletes can open a need only when it targets their state and competition level.
Reviews back up the coach side: high school and club coaches describe the network widening their reach to college programs, and a college coach praised how quickly it surfaces prospects. For any one athlete, the practical test is simple: ask your current coach whether they use FieldLevel, and ask the college coaches you talk to how they prefer to hear from recruits.
FieldLevel reviews: what athletes, parents, and coaches say
FieldLevel has some of the strongest app ratings in recruiting: 4.9 out of 5 from 2,567 ratings on the Apple App Store, and 4.8 stars from 255 reviews on Google Play, where it shows 50K+ downloads.
We read the 56 written US App Store reviews in Apple's public feed (2012 to September 2026) plus the reviews shown on Google Play. That is a small sample next to the total rating count, so treat these as themes, not statistics.
- Praise: athletes and parents credit FieldLevel with real college interest, scholarships, and commitments, and several 2025 and 2026 reviews name a specific commitment.
- Praise: high school and club coaches say it widened their reach to college programs, and reviewers like the easy setup, organized film, and confidential coach evaluations. One 2026 App Store reviewer titled their review "10x what NCSA offers."
- Complaint: Premium cost. Reviewers in 2020, 2023, and July 2026 objected to paying to see college views or to contact colleges.
- Complaint: app stability, including crashes, blank screens, and login problems, mostly in reviews from 2013 to 2022.
- Complaint: outdated coach listings at some schools. FieldLevel replied that coaches update their own profiles and that staff also update the database.
- Complaint: needing a coach involved. That follows from the promotion model, where only your own coaches can send promotions.
- Missing sports: older reviews asked for wrestling and bowling, which are now listed. Cheer and equestrian are still not on FieldLevel's sports list.
- Responsiveness: FieldLevel replies publicly to app store reviews, often pointing users to its support email.

FieldLevel vs NCSA: which is better?
Verdict: for most families FieldLevel is the better value, because it publishes its prices, costs $0 to $79 a month, and routes exposure through your own coaches, while NCSA is the choice for families who want a paid human guide.
NCSA's app is free, and its paid memberships add more ways to connect with colleges, more coach-view tracking, a message center, and guided education from recruiting coaches. NCSA also reviews profiles to verify information. It lists Free, Champion, Elite, MVP, and MVP+ tiers but does not publish prices; it asks families to schedule a call for a personalized quote. Our NCSA cost guide covers what families report paying.
Ratings point the same way. On the Apple App Store, FieldLevel holds 4.9 out of 5 from 2,567 ratings, and NCSA holds 2.8 from 1,384. On scale, NCSA says more than 40,000 college coaches can be reached through a free profile and that it has helped more than 330,000 athletes commit, while FieldLevel reports 184,761 commitments. These are each company's own figures.
Choose NCSA if you want a person telling you what to do next and you are comfortable buying after a sales call. Choose FieldLevel if your coach is on it and you would rather pay a published monthly price, or nothing.
SportsRecruits: the closest like-for-like FieldLevel alternative
Verdict: SportsRecruits is the best FieldLevel alternative when your club or high school already runs recruiting through it, though it does not show its Pro price publicly.
SportsRecruits offers a free athlete profile and a paid Pro upgrade that adds college view tracking, messaging any college coach, a Roster Needs search filter, and IMG Academy+ Essentials courses. It also sells an organization product to clubs and high schools and says more than 2,000 youth sports organizations use it.
Where FieldLevel leans on coach promotions, SportsRecruits leans on video tools, including an in-platform highlight reel editor and syncing from partners such as sidelineHD and Balltime. It reports 74K+ athlete commitments logged and 17K+ Roster Needs published by colleges, with Roster Needs covering 10 team sports. Its Pro price was not on its public athlete page on September 30, 2026. Our SportsRecruits vs FieldLevel comparison goes deeper.
NextCommit: a FieldLevel alternative for emailing coaches first
Verdict: NextCommit is the better fit when you want to start conversations with college coaches yourself, with a personalized email to each one, and it works alongside a free FieldLevel profile rather than replacing it.
NextCommit is our product, so weigh this section accordingly. On FieldLevel's free plan, a college coach has to message you first. NextCommit flips that: AI writes a personalized email to each coach on your list from your stats, film, grades, and goals, you review every draft before it is sent, and it goes out from your own inbox, so the coach sees a message from you, not from a platform. In NextCommit platform data, coaches opened about 46% of athlete emails.
The free plan includes 10 coach emails a week, the full database of 35,000+ coaches at 1,800+ schools, bulk send and scheduling, school profiles, a recruiting profile builder, templates, and favorites. Varsity is $19.99 a month or $119.94 a year for 50 emails a week, plus open, reply, and film-view tracking, a message center, automated follow-ups, and smart reply suggestions. Pro is $49.99 a month or $299.94 a year for 200 emails a week, plus native coach DMs on X, the Recruit Score with a projected division level, NIL valuation, school matching and fit, roster needs analysis, areas of improvement analysis, and a 24/7 recruiting assistant. There is no sales call, and monthly plans cancel anytime.
FieldLevel's own recruiting guide warns athletes against outreach ghostwritten by AI. We agree that a coach should hear the athlete's voice, which is why every NextCommit draft is built from the athlete's own details and reviewed by the athlete before it is sent.
The honest limits: college coaches do not browse NextCommit profiles the way they search FieldLevel, so it is an outreach tool, not a discovery network. There are no coach endorsements, no human advisor, and no events or showcases. It covers seven sports: baseball, softball, football, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's basketball. If you play lacrosse, volleyball, wrestling, swimming, or another of FieldLevel's 26 sports, FieldLevel is the better choice. Clubs and academies can use a separate NextCommit product, priced by roster size (contact us for pricing).

How to use FieldLevel and NextCommit together
For athletes in NextCommit's seven sports, the two cover different halves of recruiting: FieldLevel gets you found and vouched for, and direct email puts you in front of the specific programs you choose.
- 1Build a free FieldLevel profile with film. Direct uploads can run up to 3 minutes and 600MB each, or you can link YouTube or Hudl video. FieldLevel says profiles with video get 4X more views from college coaches.
- 2Ask your high school or club coach to write an evaluation and send promotions to colleges in their network.
- 3Check your free Recruit Score to see where your numbers stand, then build a target list of programs at realistic levels.
- 4Email the coaches on that list with a personalized message, your film link, and your FieldLevel profile link, then follow up.
- 5Reply on FieldLevel whenever a college coach starts a conversation there, and keep both profiles updated with new stats and film.
Can you cancel FieldLevel Premium? Billing and refunds
Yes. FieldLevel Premium can be canceled at any time from Account Settings or by emailing support.
- Premium is billed monthly or yearly and renews automatically on your billing date.
- Cancel before the billing date to avoid the next charge. FieldLevel's own example: cancel on the 14th for a plan that bills on the 15th.
- Annual subscribers get a reminder email three days before renewal.
- If you forget to cancel, you can ask support for a refund of the last charge. The policy invites the request but does not promise a refund.
- You can move between Silver, Gold, and Platinum instead of canceling.

FAQ
Coach email questions athletes ask most
Is FieldLevel free?
Yes. FieldLevel lists a $0 athlete plan with no time limit that includes unlimited video, stats, a profile college coaches can find in search, and coach references, and it is free for coaches too. The free plan does not show which colleges viewed you, and free athletes cannot send the first message to a college coach.
How much does FieldLevel cost?
$0 to $79 a month. FieldLevel Premium costs $29 a month for Silver, $49 for Gold, and $79 for Platinum, or $278, $470, and $758 billed yearly, as listed on fieldlevel.com on September 30, 2026. If your high school or club coach buys team seats, annual Gold costs $79 to $139 per athlete.
Is FieldLevel worth it?
Yes, the free plan is worth having for almost any athlete in its 26 sports, and it is most valuable when your high school or club coach is active on FieldLevel. Its strength is promotions and evaluations from your own high school or club coach. If your coach does not use it, the free profile still lets coaches find you, but you will need to reach programs another way.
Is FieldLevel Premium worth it?
Yes, if you will use what a tier unlocks: Silver ($29 a month) to see which colleges view you, or Gold ($49 a month) to contact 20 colleges a month and get recruiting needs alerts. It is not worth buying as a general boost, and FieldLevel itself says upgrading alone does not guarantee results. If your coach offers team Gold seats, take one instead of paying $470 a year retail.
Do college coaches use FieldLevel?
Yes. FieldLevel reports 171.5K coaches across all levels, and in August 2026 the NJCAA named it its Official Recruiting Network, with FieldLevel saying more than 60% of NJCAA teams had a coach actively using it in the prior 90 days. FieldLevel does not publish how many of its coaches work at colleges, so ask the programs you want how they prefer to hear from recruits.
Which is better, FieldLevel or NCSA?
FieldLevel, for most families who want published prices and a network driven by their own coaches. It costs $0 to $79 a month and is rated 4.9 on the Apple App Store, versus 2.8 for NCSA. NCSA fits families who want a paid recruiting coach to guide them, but it does not publish prices and asks families to schedule a call for a quote.
Is NextCommit a good FieldLevel alternative?
Yes, for baseball, softball, football, soccer, and basketball athletes who want to contact college coaches first. On FieldLevel's free plan a college coach has to message you first, while NextCommit's free plan sends 10 AI-personalized emails a week from your own inbox, each reviewed by you before it goes out. FieldLevel stays the better choice for coach endorsements and for sports NextCommit does not cover, and the two work well together.
