These ranges are general guidelines based on average recruited athlete metrics. Individual programs may have different requirements. Academic requirements, character, and coachability also play significant roles in recruiting decisions. Volleyball ranges are directional, never hard cutoffs: heights come from the JVRA coach survey and NCSA roster averages, and ranges marked derived are estimates built from JVRA, NCSA and AVCA data. Block touch shows AVCA 2014 averages for college players (measured in shoes), not high school cutoffs; AVCA tested no D2 or D3 group. Power 4 means the JVRA high-major tier.

How the Women's Volleyball Recruit Score helps you target better programs

Volleyball recruiting can feel like guesswork because height, touches, club level, and position all interact. The Recruit Score puts them side by side for your position group, so you can see which levels fit before you email coaches.

The score is not a promise from a coach. Coaches still decide from film, club events, academics, and the needs at your position in your class.

Sample Score Breakdown

Position group first

Outside hitters, opposites, middles, setters, and liberos are compared with their own benchmarks.

Height and touches

Height, approach touch, and block touch carry the most weight for pins and middles.

Club level and production

Club level and production are weighed against the level of competition, not as raw totals.

Academics and outreach readiness

Grades and organized outreach widen the list, especially at D2, D3, NAIA, and academic programs.

Division-Level Projections

D1 conversation range

Usually requires top-tier height and touches for the position, high-level club experience, and strong film.

D2 / NAIA range

A strong lane for players with real college tools who need sharper targeting or one more jump in touches or skill.

D3 / JUCO range

A good fit for players who want development time, academic alignment, or a transfer path.

How To Improve Your Score

Measure standing reach and touches at a club testing day or camp, and note the date.

Build a list across more than one division instead of only chasing D1.

Use your score to frame coach emails around your position and current level.

Update the score after each club season as your touches, stats, or grades change.

Women's Volleyball Recruit Score FAQ

How tall do you have to be to play D1 volleyball?+

It depends on position. Use the benchmarks on this page for your position group: pins and middles need more height and touch than setters and liberos, and Power 4 programs sit above the rest of Division I. Coaches still recruit smaller players with elite skill and touches.

Where do these volleyball benchmarks come from?+

Heights come from the JVRA coach survey of minimum averages by tier and NCSA roster averages by division. Block touch shows AVCA testing averages for college players by level (2014), which are references, not high school cutoffs. Ranges marked derived are directional bands NextCommit built from JVRA, NCSA, and AVCA data. None of them are hard cutoffs.

Should I enter approach touch or approach jump?+

Enter both if you have them. Approach touch is the highest point you reach on an approach, and coaches compare it by position. List where and when it was measured, because coaches discount unverified touches.

Is the Recruit Score free?+

Yes. You can get a Recruit Score without an account. Creating a free NextCommit account saves your score and lets you email coaches at programs that fit.

Is a Recruit Score the same as a coach evaluation?+

No. College coaches decide from film, live evaluation, roster needs, academics, and fit. The score gives you a starting point so your target list and emails are realistic before you send them.
