The short answer
NCSA and SportsRecruits have the same owner, IMG Academy, but they are different products. SportsRecruits is a free profile network with a paid Pro upgrade that it does not price publicly (clubs and families report about $99 a month or $399 a year), and it works best when your club runs recruiting through it. NCSA is a human-guided recruiting service whose packages families report at $2,000 to $6,000+.
- Same parent: IMG Academy announced its acquisition of SportsRecruits on May 22, 2025, placing it alongside NCSA College Recruiting.
- SportsRecruits: platform and tools. Free profile and video; Pro adds messaging any coach and seeing which colleges viewed you.
- NCSA: a profile network plus recruiting coaches. SportsRecruits' own 2025 report points families to NCSA for one-on-one help.
- Cheaper: SportsRecruits, by a wide margin, based on reported prices. Neither publishes its paid prices.
- Third option: NextCommit (our product) for direct outreach, free for 10 coach emails a week, with published prices.
How we compared NCSA and SportsRecruits
Disclosure: NextCommit is our product, and it appears here as a third option judged on the same criteria. We checked prices and features on each vendor's own site on September 30, 2026. Where a competitor is the better fit, we say so.
Neither NCSA nor SportsRecruits publishes its paid prices, so this post says "not published" and gives only figures reported by families and clubs, labeled as reported. NCSA's website could not be loaded for verification on September 30, 2026, so NCSA facts here come from its App Store and Google Play listings and archived copies of its site from August and September 2026.
Is SportsRecruits part of NCSA?
No. SportsRecruits is not part of NCSA, but both now belong to IMG Academy.
In practice the two are positioned as different layers of one business. SportsRecruits' August 2025 Halftime Report presents SportsRecruits as the platform and tools, and points families who want human help to NCSA for one-on-one planning, custom strategies, direct introductions to coaches, and scholarship negotiation support.
- IMG Academy announced on May 22, 2025 that it had acquired SportsRecruits; terms were not disclosed. The announcement placed SportsRecruits alongside IMG Academy's NCSA College Recruiting.
- SportsRecruits' About page lists joining IMG Academy in 2025.
- NCSA's Google Play developer listing names it a subsidiary of IMG Academy Parent, LLC.
- SportsRecruits Pro includes IMG Academy+ Essentials.
- SportsRecruits was founded in 2008 by Chris Meade and Matt Wheeler, and Meade was quoted in the acquisition announcement as co-founder and CEO.

NCSA: human guidance at the highest price
Verdict: NCSA is the right choice only for families who want a recruiting coach guiding them and can afford a package that families report at $2,000 to $6,000+.
NCSA does not publish package prices; its cost page asks families to schedule a call for a personalized quote. Its App Store listing describes a free app, with premium memberships that add more ways to connect with colleges, more coach-view tracking, a message center, and guided education from recruiting coaches, and it says NCSA reviews profiles to verify information. NCSA says more than 40,000 college coaches can be reached through a free profile and that it has helped more than 330,000 athletes commit.
Public app ratings are mixed: the NCSA iOS app shows about 2.8 out of 5 from 1,384 ratings, and the Google Play app shows 3.3 from 940 reviews. For reported package prices and what families say each level includes, see our NCSA cost guide.
SportsRecruits: a profile network your club can run
Verdict: SportsRecruits is the better value of the two for most families, and the obvious choice when your club or high school already provides it.
The free account includes a recruiting profile, unlimited video, a highlight reel editor, school research, a target list, open Roster Needs, and alerts when a college views you. Pro adds messaging any college coach, seeing which colleges viewed you, a Roster Needs filter in select sports, and IMG Academy+ Essentials. Pro is sold monthly or annually, renews automatically, and is non-refundable under SportsRecruits' terms. Clubs and families report about $99 a month or $399 a year, but both club sources are in lacrosse and field hockey, so the price may vary by sport and by club arrangement.
Clubs and high schools that integrate with SportsRecruits give athletes Pro accounts and manage them, and club staff can tag schools as fits, send profiles and recommendations, and see coach activity. College coaches use it free, and the IMLCA, IWLCA, and NFHCA coaches associations run their official recruiting platforms on it. Its Pro iOS app shows 3.2 out of 5 from 14 ratings.
Forum anecdotes lean its way, though they are few and dated. In a 2022 softball thread, one parent whose club provided SportsRecruits said it worked better for them than NCSA, and another said 21 of the 22 schools they contacted engaged more on SportsRecruits. Those are individual experiences, not data.
NextCommit: a third option for direct outreach
Verdict: NextCommit fits athletes who would rather contact coaches directly than wait to be found; it is our product, so weigh this section with that in mind.
The free plan includes 10 coach emails a week, the full database of 35,000+ coaches at 1,800+ schools, and AI that writes a different email for each coach from your stats, film, grades, and goals. You review every email, and it sends from your own inbox. Varsity ($19.99 a month or $119.94 a year) allows 50 emails a week and adds open, reply, and film-view tracking, a message center, and automated follow-ups. Pro ($49.99 a month or $299.94 a year) allows 200 emails a week and adds coach DMs on X, the Recruit Score with a projected division level, school matching, roster needs analysis, and a 24/7 recruiting assistant. In our platform data, coaches opened about 46% of athlete emails.
What it does not do: college coaches do not browse NextCommit profiles the way they search NCSA or SportsRecruits, so it is an outreach tool, not a discovery network. There is no human advisor, no events or showcases, and it covers only baseball, softball, football, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's basketball. It pairs well with a free SportsRecruits or NCSA profile.
Reach coaches directly, free
The free plan includes 10 AI-personalized coach emails a week, sent from your own inbox. No sales call.
Which is cheaper, NCSA or SportsRecruits?
SportsRecruits, by a wide margin, based on what families and clubs report. Neither company publishes its paid prices.
Many athletes get SportsRecruits Pro through a club, which may pass on some or all of the cost: one field hockey club charges families a discounted $250 a year, and a lacrosse club folds a Pro account into its registration fee. Whichever service you consider, get the price and refund terms in writing; SportsRecruits' terms say subscriptions are non-refundable.
| Option | Free tier | Paid price | Published? |
|---|---|---|---|
| NCSA | Free profile and app | Families report $2,000 to $6,000+ for packages | No; quote after a call |
| SportsRecruits | Free profile, video, school research, view alerts | Reported about $99 a month or $399 a year for individual Pro; club rates vary | No; shown after login |
| NextCommit (our product) | Free, 10 coach emails a week | Varsity $19.99 a month ($119.94 a year); Pro $49.99 a month ($299.94 a year) | Yes |
Which do college coaches use more? How each one reaches coaches
Neither company publishes an independently checked count of active college coaches, so the useful comparison is how each one puts an athlete in front of a coach.
Families in forum threads also report some coaches asking for direct email rather than platform messages, and in NextCommit platform data coaches opened about 46% of athlete emails. Whichever service you choose, plan on emailing the coaches at your target schools yourself.
| Route to coaches | NCSA | SportsRecruits | NextCommit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coach search | NCSA says 40,000+ college coaches can be reached through a free profile | Coaches search a database SportsRecruits puts at over 400,000 prospective athletes, free with a .edu login | None; not a discovery network |
| Human introductions | Direct introductions to coaches, per SportsRecruits' 2025 report | Club staff send profiles and recommendations | None |
| Athlete-initiated contact | Message center on premium memberships | Pro messaging to any college coach, copied to the coach's department email | Personalized email from your own inbox; X DMs on Pro |
| Events | Not found in public sources | EventBeacon coach app at select lacrosse, soccer, and women's volleyball events | None |
| Roster needs | Roster opening notifications on paid memberships | Coaches post Roster Needs (17K+ published, per SportsRecruits) | Roster needs analysis on Pro |

FAQ
Coach email questions athletes ask most
What is the difference between NCSA and SportsRecruits?
SportsRecruits is a profile network and set of tools; NCSA is a recruiting service built around human guidance. SportsRecruits gives athletes a free searchable profile, lets clubs manage their players' recruiting, and sells a Pro upgrade for messaging coaches and seeing which colleges viewed you. NCSA pairs a profile network with recruiting coaches, and SportsRecruits' own 2025 report points families to NCSA for one-on-one planning, direct coach introductions, and scholarship negotiation support.
Is SportsRecruits part of NCSA?
No, but they share an owner. IMG Academy announced on May 22, 2025 that it had acquired SportsRecruits, placing it alongside IMG Academy's NCSA College Recruiting. The two remain separate brands with separate websites and different products.
Which is cheaper, NCSA or SportsRecruits?
SportsRecruits. Both offer free profiles, but SportsRecruits Pro is reported by clubs and families at about $99 a month or $399 a year, while families report NCSA packages at $2,000 to $6,000+. Neither company publishes its paid prices, so get the price in writing, and note that many athletes get SportsRecruits Pro through their club.
Which do college coaches use more, NCSA or SportsRecruits?
No public data settles it. NCSA says more than 40,000 college coaches can be reached through a free profile, while SportsRecruits publishes no count of college coaches and instead reports 21M+ athlete views by colleges; neither figure is independently checked. They reach coaches differently: NCSA through its network and recruiting coaches, SportsRecruits through athlete search, posted Roster Needs, club staff, and an event app in select sports.
Should I use NCSA or SportsRecruits?
SportsRecruits, if your club or high school provides it, since club staff can then tag schools as fits and send your profile to coaches. Choose NCSA only if you want a recruiting coach guiding your family and the reported package price fits your budget. If you mainly want to reach coaches, a free profile plus your own personalized emails covers most of the work.
Can I use NCSA and SportsRecruits at the same time?
Yes. Both offer free profiles, so keeping a profile on each costs nothing and lets coaches find you in either place. Paying for both is harder to justify: choose the paid option that matches how you want to recruit, human guidance (NCSA) or self-serve tools (SportsRecruits Pro).
Is there a cheaper alternative to both NCSA and SportsRecruits?
Yes. NextCommit (our product) is free for 10 AI-personalized coach emails a week, then $19.99 or $49.99 a month, with published prices and no sales call. It is an outreach tool, not a profile network, so coaches do not browse NextCommit the way they search NCSA or SportsRecruits.
