The short answer

The best football recruiting website for almost every high school player is Hudl, because Hudl film is the default currency of football recruiting and the recruiting profile costs the athlete nothing when the team uses Hudl. Add a free X account and direct outreach to coaches, then pay only for the job you cannot do yourself: paid monthly plans run from $14.99 a month (Prep Redzone) to NCSA packages that families report at $2,000 to $6,000+.

  • Film: Hudl. Free to the athlete when the school pays; high school packages are $1,500 to $4,000 per program per year.
  • Coach channels: X (free; Division I coaches can DM from June 15 after sophomore year) and camps, including college camps and Under Armour Next by nomination with your Hudl video.
  • Profile networks: FieldLevel (free, Premium $29 to $79 a month), SportsRecruits (free profile, Pro price not published), and NCSA (free profile, packages priced on a sales call).
  • Paid exposure: Prep Redzone ($14.99 to $29.99 a month) and Rivals Recruits (price changed within the last week). Optional at best.
  • Self-serve outreach: CaptainU (free to $199.95 a month) and ProductiveRecruit ($29 a month).
  • Direct outreach: NextCommit (our product), free for 10 AI-personalized coach emails a week, $19.99 or $49.99 a month above that, with native coach DMs on X on Pro.

How we compared football recruiting services

Disclosure first: NextCommit is our product. It is listed with the same criteria as every other service, and where a competitor is the better fit we say so. We checked every price and feature on the vendor's own website on September 30, 2026. NCSA's site blocked automated checks that day, so NCSA details come from archived copies of its own pages. Where a vendor shows its price only after login or on a sales call, the tables say "not published" instead of guessing, and where a price comes from clubs or families rather than the vendor, we say who reported it.

Football recruiting has three features that shape this ranking. Film is the currency: Hudl gives every player on a Hudl team a free recruiting profile, and even Under Armour Next asks for a Hudl video to nominate yourself. Recruiting is unusually public on X, where offers and camp invites are commonly announced. And camps are where coaches see players in person. So we grouped services by the job they do (film, coach channels, profile networks, paid exposure, self-serve tools, and direct outreach) and judged each one on price, who does the outreach, and who it fits.

What each football recruiting service includes

This table lists what each service says it includes on its own public pages as of September 30, 2026. "Not listed" means we did not find the feature described publicly, not that it cannot exist.

The pattern: the networks (Hudl, FieldLevel, SportsRecruits, NCSA) make you findable, the self-serve tools (CaptainU, ProductiveRecruit) give you contacts and a mailbox, and NextCommit is built for the step between them, getting a personalized email with your film in front of each coach on your list. None of them replaces good film or a high school coach who will vouch for you.

Football recruiting rules that decide which tools matter

A few NCAA rules explain why film and profiles matter early and why outreach tools matter more later.

What this means for tools: before June 15 after sophomore year, your job is film, a profile coaches can find, and the right camps. After it, Division I coaches can answer your emails and DMs, and outreach tools start to earn their price.

  • Emails, DMs, and calls: Division I coaches cannot send recruiting materials or electronic correspondence, or make recruiting calls, before June 15 after sophomore year. Football is not one of the sport exceptions, and NCAA Proposal 2023-14 (effective August 1, 2023) lined up football's first call date with that June 15 date.
  • In-person contact: football is an exception to the general rule. Division I coaches cannot make off-campus in-person contact before January 1 of junior year.
  • FBS calendar for 2026-27: the fall evaluation period runs September 1 to November 29, 2026, followed by a dead period from November 30 to December 31.
  • Roster size: Division I football rosters at schools in the House settlement defendant conferences, or that opt in, are capped at 105, and opt-in schools can award athletics aid to any rostered athlete instead of working under sport-by-sport scholarship maximums.
  • Odds: the NCAA counts 1,028,761 high school football players and 77,204 NCAA players, so about 7.5% play NCAA football. Across sports, only about 2% of high school athletes receive athletics scholarships.
  • Star ratings: On3's founder said about 1 million kids played high school football last season and only about 6,600 held Rivals star ratings, as reported by Saturday Down South. Most players will never have one, so film and outreach have to do the work.

Hudl: the film every other site links to

Hudl is the one football recruiting site almost every high school player should keep current, and it costs the athlete nothing when the team uses Hudl.

Every prospect on a Hudl team gets a free recruiting profile with highlights, full game film, and academic and athletic information, plus college search and coach contact tools at no extra cost. The school or program pays: Hudl publishes high school packages at $1,500 (Silver+), $2,500 (Gold+), and $4,000 (Platinum+) per program per year, with College Search and Contact and athlete profiles listed as included. Athletic department packages are quote only.

Hudl film is also what the rest of the football recruiting world accepts. Under Armour Next asks high school players to nominate themselves for its camp series by emailing their latest Hudl video, and FieldLevel and SportsRecruits both import Hudl links into their profiles. If your team does not use Hudl, both of those sites also accept YouTube links.

The limitation is that a Hudl profile is passive. It is where coaches go once something sends them there, so pair it with X and direct outreach.

X (Twitter): the free coach channel

X is the most public channel in football recruiting, it is free, and every prospect with film should have a clean, active account.

NCAA social media rules shape how coaches use it. Coaches at every division may like, share, or repost a recruit's post, but Division I and II coaches may not comment publicly until the recruit signs a written offer of aid. Division I coaches can send direct messages once the sport's contact date arrives, which in football is June 15 after sophomore year. Offers and camp invites are commonly announced there, and paid evaluation products get debated there too.

Set it up like a recruiting profile: your name, grad year, position, school, and a pinned Hudl highlight. Post new film and verified measurables when you have them. And be careful. In 2020, fake Twitter accounts posing as Tennessee, USC, South Carolina, and UAB football coaches asked high school players for highlight links, one asked a high school coach for a $20 payment, and the schools confirmed the accounts were fake. Check any account against the school's official staff directory before you send anything, and never send money to an account that claims to be a coach.

NextCommit Pro (our product) adds native coach DMs on X alongside email; details are in the NextCommit section below.

Camps: college camps and Under Armour Next

Camps are where football coaches see you in person, and they are worth the money when they are at realistic schools whose staff already has your film.

College camps are run and priced by each program, so we did not list a price. FieldLevel lets college coaches post their camps as events and see which athletes marked themselves as attending, so it is one place to find college camps and let a staff see that you plan to attend.

Under Armour Next is the national camp path built around Hudl film. Its 2026 high school boys camp series ran in 13 cities from February 22 to May 31, entry was by nomination (you email your latest Hudl video), and top performers could earn All-America and Futures Game invites in Orlando. Middle school camps and UA Next combines use open registration. Camp fees are not shown on the camp page.

Plan camps after outreach, not instead of it. Email the staff before you register, tell them you are coming, and send your film, so the camp becomes a second look instead of a first one.

NCSA: a guided program with unpublished prices

NCSA is worth considering only if you want a paid human recruiting coach and are comfortable getting a price on a sales call; the free profile is fine to have either way.

NCSA (Next College Student Athlete) is a for-profit recruiting company founded in 2000, based in Chicago, and owned by IMG Academy, which also acquired SportsRecruits in May 2025. The free NCSA app lets athletes build a profile, add film, and see coach views. Premium members get more coach view tracking, a message center, and guided education from recruiting coaches. NCSA says more than 40,000 college coaches can be reached through a free profile.

Prices are not published. NCSA asks families to schedule a call for a personalized quote, and families report packages of $2,000 to $6,000+ (our NCSA cost guide has the details). Its iOS app is rated 2.8 out of 5 from 1,384 ratings. For a football player, a package buys guidance and accountability; it does not replace Hudl film, an X account, or emails from you. Pay for it if you want a person telling you what to do next and you can afford it.

FieldLevel: the best free network if your coach uses it

FieldLevel is the strongest free football network when your high school coach is active on it, and it publishes every athlete price.

FieldLevel is a coach-to-coach network: verified high school and club coaches connect with college coaches and recommend athletes, and college coaches post recruiting needs, including on a live football needs board. The free plan is $0 forever with unlimited video, stats, search visibility, and coach references. The catch on free is that you cannot send the first message to a college coach; the college coach has to start the conversation.

Premium is published. Silver is $29 a month ($278 a year) and adds college activity, matches, and research. Gold is $49 a month ($470 a year) and adds needs alerts, 20 college contacts a month, and a 2X profile boost. Platinum is $79 a month ($758 a year) with unlimited contacts and a 5X boost. If your high school coach buys bulk seats, annual Gold costs $79 to $139 per athlete. The iOS app is rated 4.9 from 2,567 ratings, and on August 4, 2026 the NJCAA named FieldLevel its Official Recruiting Network, which matters if junior college is on your list.

If your high school coach is not on FieldLevel, the endorsement engine that makes it different will not run. Ask your coach before you pay.

SportsRecruits: a clean profile, stronger in club sports

SportsRecruits is a solid free football profile, but its Pro price is not published and its biggest advantages show up in club sports such as soccer rather than in high school football.

The free profile includes unlimited video (with Hudl embeds), a highlight reel editor, school search, and a target list. Pro adds messaging to any college coach and tracking of which colleges viewed you. Its event app for college coaches, EventBeacon, covers select lacrosse, soccer, and volleyball events, and its Pro roster needs filter covers a list of sports that does not include football.

SportsRecruits sells Pro monthly or annually and shows the price only after login. Clubs and families report about $99 a month or $399 a year for a direct subscription; that is a reported figure, not an official one. Its terms say subscriptions are non-refundable, and the Pro mobile app is iOS only and requires an active Pro subscription. SportsRecruits has been owned by IMG Academy, NCSA's parent, since May 2025. Take Pro if your school or club provides it; otherwise keep the free profile and put the money toward outreach you control.

Prep Redzone: regional rankings and combines

Prep Redzone is a low-cost add-on for players in the states it covers who want regional rankings and combine exposure; it is not an outreach tool on its base plan.

Prep Redzone is a football-specific regional scouting, rankings, and player profile site. The base plan is $14.99 a month or $119.99 a year. Prep Redzone+ is $29.99 a month or $199.99 a year and adds coach view alerts, college match, coach contacts, email templates, and $25 off its combines.

Check that it covers your state before you subscribe. A regional ranking can help a coach notice you, but it does not send your film to anyone, so pair it with outreach.

Rivals Recruits (On3): a paid evaluation with a moving price

Rivals Recruits is hard to recommend as a primary tool: it charges for an evaluation and ranking consideration, and its price changed within the last week.

On September 30, 2026, On3's Rivals Recruits page listed a profile at $29.99 for the first year (shown as 50% off a regular $59.99) and a Rivals Scouting Grade, which includes a scout evaluation, a report, and ranking consideration, at $399.99. Saturday Down South reported on September 24, 2026 that Rivals was charging $499 for the evaluation, so the price changed within about a week. Check the live page on the day you buy.

Saturday Down South also reported that public reaction on X was largely negative, with many replies framing the product as paying for a ranking. A paid evaluation may tell you where you stand, but a coach still has to see your film, so spend on film and outreach first.

CaptainU: budget self-serve with optional counselors

CaptainU is a reasonable budget tool for families who will run their own outreach and want the option of counselor help at a published monthly price.

Bronze is a free profile. Silver is $22.50 a month and adds messaging, templates, and seeing who viewed your profile. Gold is $39.95 a month and adds up to one meeting a month with a CaptainU recruiting counselor. Platinum is $199.95 a month with a dedicated counselor. There is no contract, and new athletes get a free two-week trial of some Silver features, capped at 10 colleges and 10 messages. CaptainU claims use by over 3 million high school athletes.

CaptainU changed hands this year: MLQ Ventures LLC, led by a senior CaptainU staff member, acquired it effective April 6, 2026, after a period when the product was branded Stack Athlete. Reviews are mixed. Its Trustpilot score was 2.0 from 48 reviews on September 30, 2026, and the complaint families describe most is coach-activity alerts that turned out to be broad searches rather than real interest. CaptainU's own FAQ explains that a search alert means your profile matched a coach's search filters, not that the coach is recruiting you.

ProductiveRecruit: flat-price Gmail outreach

ProductiveRecruit fits self-directed families who want to send high-volume email from their own Gmail at one flat price.

Recruit Pro is $29 a month or $290 a year. It sends from the athlete's own Gmail, up to 150 coach emails a day, with open and click tracking, and it claims 90,000+ college coach contacts across 24 sports, including football and flag football. The 7-day free trial has full features but requires a card and caps you at 10 emails and 10 target schools.

Its public pricing page centers on contacts, sending volume, and tracking. NextCommit centers on writing a personalized email for each coach and adds coach DMs on X; our ProductiveRecruit alternative page compares the two in detail.

NextCommit: personalized coach emails and DMs on X

NextCommit is the pick if you want an email written for each coach from your film and numbers, sent from your own inbox, with native coach DMs on X on the Pro plan.

NextCommit is our product, so weigh this section with that in mind. Free is $0 for 10 coach emails a week with the full coach database (35,000+ coaches at 1,800+ schools), AI-personalized emails, bulk send and scheduling, school profiles, a recruiting profile builder, templates, and favorites. Each email is written for that coach from your stats, film, grades, and goals, you review it before it goes, and it sends from your own inbox. Varsity is $19.99 a month or $119.94 a year for 50 emails a week, plus open tracking, reply and film-view tracking, a message center, automated follow-ups, and smart reply suggestions.

Pro is $49.99 a month or $299.94 a year for 200 emails a week and adds the feature that matters most in football: native coach DMs on X, so you can reach coaches on the channel where football recruiting is most public. Pro also includes the Recruit Score with a projected division level, NIL valuation, school matching and fit, roster needs analysis, areas of improvement analysis, and a 24/7 recruiting assistant. In our platform data, coaches opened about 46% of athlete emails. There is no sales call, and monthly plans cancel anytime.

The honest limits: coaches do not browse a NextCommit profile network the way they search FieldLevel or SportsRecruits, so it is an outreach tool, not a discovery network. There is no human advisor, no camps or showcases, and it covers seven sports (football among them). Keep your Hudl film current and use NextCommit to put it in front of the coaches on your list.

Football recruiting stack by budget

You do not need one service that does everything. Here is how we would combine tools at each budget, using prices checked September 30, 2026.

Two rules hold at every budget. Spend on getting your film in front of coaches before you spend on rankings or evaluations. And pay for one outreach tool at a time; two tools emailing the same coaches add cost without adding reach.

FAQ

Coach email questions athletes ask most

What is the best football recruiting website?

Hudl is the one football recruiting website almost every high school player needs, because Hudl film is the default currency of football recruiting (Under Armour Next even asks for your Hudl video to nominate yourself) and the recruiting profile is free when your team uses Hudl. After film, the best choice depends on the job: FieldLevel if your high school coach is active on it, CaptainU or ProductiveRecruit for budget self-serve outreach, and NextCommit (our product) if you want AI-written emails sent from your own inbox plus coach DMs on X. Prices as of September 30, 2026 range from $0 to NCSA packages that families report at $2,000 to $6,000+.

Do I need to pay for a football recruiting service?

No. A free stack covers the essentials: a Hudl profile through your team, an X account with your film pinned, free profiles on FieldLevel, SportsRecruits, and NCSA, and direct email to coaches. Paid services sell time, tracking, volume, or a human guide; none of them can replace film. Only about 7.5% of high school football players go on to play NCAA football, so spend where it gets your film seen.

Is Hudl enough to get recruited?

Not by itself. Hudl gives every player on a Hudl team a free recruiting profile with highlights, full game film, and college search and coach contact tools, but a profile only works when coaches are pointed to it. Pair your Hudl film with an active X account, direct emails to the coaches on your list, and camps at schools that fit.

How important is Twitter/X for football recruiting?

Very important, and it is free. Under NCAA rules, coaches at every division can like and repost a recruit's posts, Division I and II coaches cannot comment publicly until a recruit signs a written offer of aid, and Division I coaches can send direct messages once the June 15 after sophomore year contact date arrives. Keep your account clean with your film pinned, and verify any coach account before sending anything: in 2020, fake accounts posing as college football coaches asked recruits for highlight links, and one asked a high school coach for a $20 payment.

Is NCSA worth it for football?

Not as a first purchase. NCSA does not publish package prices and asks families to schedule a call for a quote; families report packages of $2,000 to $6,000+. The free NCSA profile is fine to have, and a paid package makes sense only if you want a human recruiting coach guiding you and can afford it after you have Hudl film, an X account, and direct outreach in place.

When can Division I football coaches contact recruits?

June 15 after sophomore year for recruiting materials, emails, direct messages, and phone calls. Football is not one of the sport exceptions to that date, and NCAA Proposal 2023-14 (effective August 1, 2023) lined up football's first call date with it. Off-campus in-person contact in football starts January 1 of junior year.
