The short answer: what coaches want from your video

A volleyball recruiting video should prove your role. In 3 to 5 minutes, a coach should know your position, your size and reach, your level of competition, and whether your best skill translates to their program. Lead with your best reps, label yourself clearly, and keep a full match link ready.

Set up the film before you cut clips

  • Film from an elevated spot behind the end line so the whole court is in frame.
  • Use full rallies, not just the final contact; coaches want to see the read before the play.
  • Add a 2 to 3 second marker on yourself at the start of each clip if your jersey is hard to see.
  • Cut dead time between clips, but do not speed up or slow down the play.
  • Upload to YouTube or Hudl as unlisted or public, and test the link in a private browser.

Put the clips in the right order

  1. 1Title card with your details and contact information.
  2. 2Your 5 to 8 best position-specific reps against your strongest opponents.
  3. 3Skill groups for your position, each with 4 to 6 clips.
  4. 4Serving, then secondary skills.
  5. 5An end card that repeats your contact information and your club tournament schedule.

Share it where coaches will see it

Send the link in the first coach email with your measurables and club schedule, not as an attachment. Put it in your recruiting profile, and send a short update to coaches who replied each time you add new film.

Division I coaches can reply with recruiting messages from June 15 after sophomore year, but they read film before then. Get the video out early so you are already on their list when contact opens.

Email your video to coaches who fit

NextCommit puts your film link in a personalized email to each coach you pick.

FAQ

Questions athletes and parents ask

How long should a volleyball highlight video be?

3 to 5 minutes. Put your best position-specific reps in the first 30 to 60 seconds, then add depth. Coaches who want more will ask for a full match.

What should be on a volleyball video title card?

Name, graduation year, position, height, standing reach and touches with the date measured, club team and age group, jersey number and color, high school, GPA, email, and phone.

What camera angle is best for a volleyball recruiting video?

An elevated view from behind the end line, high enough to see the whole court. It shows the pass, the set, the attack, and the block in one frame, which is what coaches need to judge decisions and timing.

Should I send a full match too?

Yes, keep one ready. A full set or match against strong competition shows your consistency and decisions between highlight plays, and coaches often ask for it after the highlights.

How often should I update my volleyball video?

After each club season and whenever you add a new skill or a big tournament. Send the update to coaches who replied, with one line on what changed.
